NesNet company profile in brief
NesNet ehf is a very young company but one that has plenty of experience behind it. The people behind the company have backgrounds in commercial fisheries, business, education and media – and NesNet was formed as a platform to bring all of these skills together.
The company’s activities to date have been primarily centred on training for the fishing industry, in particular in providing training courses for French and Dutch fishermen embarking on seine netting as a replacement for their present methods of fishing.
NesNet ehf works closely with the Sudurnes Comprehensive College and its international subsidiary the International College of Commercial Fishing Gear Technology (ISCFT), based at Keflavík in the south of Iceland, and has access to college facilities – including a mini-flume tank that was designed specifically as a training tool for fishing gear technologists.
To date NesNet ehf has held a dozen specialised courses for European fishermen interested in seine net techniques and has tailored these courses to their particular needs, which in every case has included providing a day at sea with a local seine net boat.
The feedback The feedback from these courses has been excellent and subsequent enquiries have been the result of reports those attending have given their colleagues.
The Seine Netting conference held in May 2008 was organised by NesNet in co-operation with Sudurnes Comprehensive College and was a great success that the company is looking at repeating in the near future.
